Duality

What if, on the best of days, you were so innately good that sainthood was a real possibility?  However, on the worst of days, you were also so fundamentally evil that demons quivered in your presence.  And to make matters just slightly more complicated, you transitioned from one state to the other on a constant basis?

Grisel is a world where all humans experience the same duality.  Every man, woman, and child toggle between being truly good and frighteningly evil.  Some change at random times, their lack of regularity making them outcasts of all society.  While others transition with perfectly timed cycles.  These form the normal bedrock of civilization.  And, of course, there are a few, the freaks, who can effect the transition at will.

In this balancing act of righteousness and sin, rumors arise of a way to end the changes.  An impossible dream for most, a blasphemous concept for others, yet a few attempt to do the unthinkable and end, once and for all, the curse of duality.  But how do you plan for the triumph of good when the enemy knows your every move?  How do you scheme for permanent evil when your foe shares your body, your brain, your every waking, and dreaming, thought?
